A Perfect Saturday in Howth

Howth-Houses-Blue-white-CARD-2

Up and out early and the first stop when we arrived in Howth was Howth Market.  I picked up a coffee in Compulsion.  They sell artisan Badger & Dodo coffee..the name is slightly off-putting I know, but trust me..it’s great coffee!  Then we headed straight over to the impressive display of cupcakes from Buns.ie

The first world problem here was which cupcake to go for..the display was beautiful! They are fab to look at and seriously delicious to eat.  It was a toss up between the red velvet and the chocolate raspberry. I went with the latter and I wasn’t disappointed!! Then for a wander around the market.  They have a good selection of stalls selling food, artisan produce, jewellery and plenty more besides!  The market is open Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays from 9am-6pm. Compulsion Coffee and Amore Gelato and a few other shops at the market are open throughout the week!

Then it was back in the car for a short drive through Howth village, up the hill to the summit.  The view of Dublin Bay from the summit car park is stunning if the weather is on your side…we got lucky..it didn’t rain at least which was a bonus!!

We had a lovely walk which lead us along the gorse lined paths with fantastic views of the Baily Lighthouse and along some narrow cliff paths..if you can handle heights this walk is well worth it for the views!

Back at Howth Harbour and we were ready for lunch!  We decided to try out Crabby Jo’s which is owned by the fish shop Wright’s of Howth.  It’s a family friendly restaurant, the prices are reasonable and the staff were very friendly. We ordered Dublin Bay Prawns, Calamari & Kilmore Quay Crab Claws.  The food was all very tasty and the atmosphere was great too!

After lunch we had a wander down the pier and caught a glimpse of Sammy the Seal who is a regular in Howth Harbour.

Meeting Cath Kidston

To say Cath Kidston is an inspiration to me is an understatement.

So, last night I had an amazing experience! I had the pleasure of meeting the very talented designer Cath Kidston in the stunning location of the Marker Hotel in Dublin.

What’s not to LOVE..Cath Kidston, Canapés and Wine!! I was in my element.

From the moment she entered the room the excitement and anticipation was palpable. It was a room filled with tea-dress wearing, Cath Kidston loving woman with the odd man or two looking shifty!

Cath was interviewed by the very competent Melanie Morris : Editor-in-Chief/Beauty Director of Image Magazine. The interview was engaging from the start and Twitter went into meltdown with #imageinspires trending in Dublin from the get-go!

It was fascinating to hear first hand how Cath has made her rise to fame from small humble beginnings in her Interiors shop in Clarendon Cross near Notting Hill in London to having global success!

One of my favorite quotes of the evening was…

‘A founder is someone who has found what they love doing’

Cath was a gem and her honesty, work ethic and humbleness was truly inspiring.

I felt very privileged to have been given the opportunity to have a few words with Cath while she signed a copy of her book for me ‘Coming Up Roses’.

To say the night was FUN is an understatement! The Gin and Tonic Mojito’s in the Marker Bar afterwards were the icing on the Cath Kidston cake!

This solid chocolate handbag was especially made by the chef of the Marker Hotel for Cath upon her arrival at the hotel..amazing!

Thanks to Image Magazine for a fantastic evening and for all those beautiful gifts in the goody bag which included Butlers Chocolate, a Max Benjamin Candle (which smells devine!), Clarins Hand and Nail Treatment Cream and a pretty 2016 Diary.
